found this manga around ten years ago (10/10 for the one about a host and a teacher)

Just saw the title on Renta and I ended up re-reading the second story again. Still one of the best "enemies to lovers" trope out there.

(Currently reading up to the beginning love story of Rinka's older bro while enjoying the extras about the second couple along the way)

Unexpected gem

I agree with many other commenters that the couple introduced in Vol 2 is where this manga gets interesting. Both the seme and the uke are well developed and unique characters, but the uke really is an unexpected gem. He is the most complex and interesting uke I have ever seen. I hope other yaoi mangakas are inspired by him to break the uke cliches.

Loved the second story!

I agree with a lot of people here - the first story was too cliche and relatively unlikeable to me (flat characters, seme treating uke with no respect and still supposed to be shown in positive light? No thank you). I could go into more detail, but there are enough reviews here with more, so I'll leave it at that.

The second story (volumes 2&3) was so much more entertaining, captivating and sweet. Is it a story between two soft personalities who mesh well together and have a blossoming romance? Not at all. The reason the story worked so well for me is that the characters both had such strong, sharp personalities and they each were jaded in some way as well, creating the perfect scenario of two people who can both stand up for themselves as well as lick each others' wounds.

So I'll continue the common opinion - skip volume 1 and head straight for the second story in volume 2. You don't miss much. I only wish the entire series was about this couple!

Spoilers...

Yeah, so, the first story is really infuriating for so many reasons. It's just stupid. I like possessive, controlling and sometimes even cruel semes, as long as I know they are acting that way out of love. But that's not the case in this story. Shingyouji is just a total jerk who, even though he says he's in love with Aya, also says that he's sleeping with other people. What a charming kinda guy. And Aya irks me too. I liked him at first, his arrogant and strong personality was a nice change for an uke, yet all of a sudden he turns into a wimpy mess, who can't live without the other guy. I did start to like him again at the end of their story, when he finally does seem to fight back, but ultimately I was left feeling disappointed as all the major issues in their relationship were just glossed over. I mean, what happened with the whole fiancee thing? Did the other guy get married then or what? And does Shingyouji continue sleeping around? (There are times when I got the impression that he doesn't - for instance when his assistant tells that actress that he no longer has time to mess around with anyone, except for the "wildcat", and in the extra chapter he does turn down an invitation as his "cat" is waiting for him. But if that's the case, then why did he tell Aya that he was still bedding others in the first place?) And why is this labeled as S&M? There was barely any. The seme restrained the uke a couple of times, constantly forced him into sex, and just treated him badly overall. -- That isn't sadomasochism, that's just the seme being a dick.

The second story, however, is much more interesting. Both the seme and uke have really strong personalities and they are both quite complex characters. Unlike in the previous story, I can actually believe and understand both characters' feelings and actions.
There is rape in the first(?) chapter, but it doesn't lead to "love", and is dealt with quite well. And there is also violence, but both characters are equally violent to the other, so it's not like one guy is constantly beating up the other. Plus Rinka actually gets turned on when sensei hits him, so that makes this even better. But if you're not into that kind of thing then don't worry, it's not all about fighting. There is love too, or at least one-sided love for the time being (I've only read upto chapter 13 so far), but it's not all depressing or angsty, as there are some funny moments mixed in to keep it relatively light. For instance, all of Rinka's interactions with the other hosts are quite amusing XD I really like the dark-haired guy (not sure of his name), especially when he messes with Aya.
Another good thing about this story is that the uke is not only strong and independent, he actually enjoys and initiates sex too. Plus he's older than the seme, which I think is hotter.

Overall the art is decent. It's nice and clean, and all the guys look like guys (which I like -- I'm fed up of seeing either overly feminine men or bordering-on-shota type characters), but for some reason it doesn't appeal to me that much. I can't quite figure out why. It's just average really. Unfortunately that does mean that the sex scenes are a little bit dull too. Don't get me wrong, they aren't bad at all, they just seem to be lacking something. Though in the more recent chapters they have improved, but I still haven't been wowed yet. So if you want to read this just for the smut, then I'd advise finding something else to get your jollies off to. But if you want an interesting plot, with likeable and complex characters facing actual problems (like struggling to get someone to reciprocate your feelings, instead of the typical silly misunderstandings in most BL), then this is the story for you.

So just skip the first volume entirely. You really won't miss much, believe me. The only thing you need to know is that Aya, one of the hosts working with Rinka, is the guy from the first volume. And the person he always talks about is obviously his "lover" (I'm still cynical about their relationship so I'm not going to class them as being real lovers, it's more like a slave x pet type of thing). Aside from that there really isn't any other connection between the first and second stories, so just skip to the second volume. Unless you like wasting your own time.

Another rape story.i dont understand why rape always shown so casually as pleasurable thing.
I did not like it. About first story it is boring as hell. Characters are so empty, story is so cliche.
Second story again begins with rape.but characters are loveable more than first story. uke's split personality is somewhat cute. But i didnt like seme again.
Manga haven' t character growth so it is frustrating.
Art style for me isnt appealing too.

Typical Yaoi, Decent Smut
by AsexualFujyoshi

Okay, this is gonna be a kinda generic question regarding about 96% of all yaoi manga, but... Can somebody please, please, PLEASE explain to me why these two characters are suddenly in love? Like, what do they see in each other? Pretty eyes? Pretty face? "Suddenly I am incapable of surviving without contact from your lips?" I mean, what the hell? I just want to know what the connection is. Is it purely physical? That's awfully superficial, and the obnoxious heart-pounding monologues would argue otherwise. But the emotional connection between the characters is always so shallow. So what is it? Are yaoi stories just about handsome young men who are so sex-starved that anything will do? Huh?!

In the first story, the uke was used and repeatedly raped by the seme. So why the hell is he suddenly in love with him? It makes no sense as far as I can tell. If this is supposed to be some kind of Stockholm scenario, it's not even close to being developed enough to be realistic. Imagine what would happen if, in real life, rape victims fell in love with their rapists all the damn time? Would it be seen as okay or "romantic," like this manga (and many yaoi titles) seems to promote? Honestly, this whole genre is filled to the brim with unfortunate implications, which makes it impossible to read for the romance. I mean, am I the only one who has a problem with this? I've never been a victim of rape, but I feel like if I had, I would despise that person with the very essence of my being. I would most likely want them dead in the most horrifically painful and humiliating way imaginable. The uke in the first story says multiple times that he'll kill the seme if he touches him again. Really, I wish these characters would follow through on their threats for once instead of falling "madly in love" with their rapists.

As far as the smut goes, it was pretty decent, probably above average. The art is nice as well, making the sex that much more enjoyable. Despite their lousy personalities, the characters were very pretty and well-designed, so you can pretty much ignore most of the internal thoughts and junk if you're like me and don't care to be bothered by them. So, despite the fairly annoying, cliché, typical yaoi story, I was able to enjoy the sex scenes, at least. I'll give it a 5 for that.

Second voulme really good

The rating's for the story in the second volume. The first volume was so cliche and boring with its psycho forceful possessive seme and reluctant uke that i was only able to read two chapters. The second volume, though, is really interesting but I would advise to skip reading if you're bothered by screwed-up characters, fucked up relationships and rape.

Rinku's bored with pretty much everything in his life when he finds out that his teacher who's involved with an older married man has a very violent layer to his personality and isn't such a goody two shoes after all. It turns out that violence turns Riku on... Frankly, the two leads of this story are each other's match.
Spoiler (mouse over to view)
Usually rape is a no no in my books, meaning I strongly dislike the rape-is-love trope. However, here it doesn't have much to do with love, it's all about violence and dominance and only just a little about lust. The interesting part is that Rinku seems aware of that. Yakushiji's reaction isn't the manga-typical tears and fears and doubts but cold shoulder and more violence which spurs Rinku on and makes him try to make Yakushiji fall out of love with the older man.

All in all, fucked up but intersting!

The first story was boring, but the second story makes up for it. The teacher in the second story is a very interesting character somewhat two-faced because of heartbreak, and he was pushed into revealing his violent side by Ritsu's taunts. It's entertaining to see Ritsu desire and chase after such a strong personality. I can't wait to see what happens next!
